A tweet up and ploughing 2015.

It’s not long now till one of the biggest if not the biggest event in the farming calendar . The National Ploughing championships are on next Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th of September in Ratheniska , Co Laois .
This is a yearly three day event which showcases all areas of agriculture in Ireland from machinery to food , dairy to sheep , farming organisations to sheds and lots more as well . It is a great day or couple of days out for the whole family because there is something for everyone there .
We go every year and some years we go two or maybe even the three days . This year we are going on the Wednesday and on that day I am going to be tweeting from the @IrelandsFarmers account for the day . This Twitter account is curated each week by a different Irish farmers to give people an insight into farm life on all types of farms .
This year the three days of the ploughing is covered by three different farmers my day is Wednesday . The fun thing this year is you can come meet the tweeting farmers at the ploughing . Each day in the IFA tent there will be a meet up , one at 12pm and another at 3pm . It will a chance to meet us and have a chat . So I am asking you all to come along if you are at the ploughing Wednesday and say hi at 12pm or 3pm myself and Sid will be waiting .
Our hashtag for the ploughing is #ploughing15 and here is the @IrelandsFarmers account so go follow and see what will be happening over the three days . We will be there to answer farming questions , Twitter questions or in my case if anyone wants to know about blogging or vlogging I will be happy to start you off that day .
So spread the word guys about the meet up and I hope to see you all at the ploughing there might even be tea 🙂

No Resolutions For Me.

Happy New Year everyone , no how many of you have made New Years resolutions ? and what ones have you made ? eat less ? give up cigarettes ? no more junk food ? exercise more ? . Well I have given up on resolutions because I have tried them all and failed terribly at them all . There was a time on New Years day where I would nearly have the shakes now from lack of Chocolate and biscuits but not any more.

This year I have decided its not resolutions I need , it’s some challenges . I am sure as the year goes by I will come up with possibly one or two more and maybe the ones I have decided to start with I won’t be able to keep up , but it wont be from want of trying. So my first challenge is to keep in better contact with some friends who I have let become distant due to being to busy , this is where I will have to make a much bigger effort to email , text , call or Skype them to say ‘ Hi ‘ .

My second challenge is to take lots more photos . About six years ago I went and bought a very expensive , at the time , Canon DSLR and used it for a while and then told myself I was just to busy . It is now time to take it out and dust it off and get taking and sharing some , sorry lots of photos so you have been warned :). When I was a child and teenager I had three passions , art , photography and horses . The only ones my parents totally let me do was the art and photography . Up until I had the littlest farmer I used to do a weekly art class that I will go back to at some stage but photos are going to be first.

This is the big one , the is the one I might not be able to manage but really , really hope I can. I am setting myself and anyone who would like to join me , we will even have our own hashtag for it , the challenge of blogging everyday for the whole year with today being the first day. I always set myself the challenge of blogging everyday for at least a month each year and when I get into the routine of it I love it each day but this will be tougher. I am not going to be strict on what I put up so maybe some days it will be one photo , a quick hello , a 500 word post  , one word , I don’t really know yet but I am sure I will find my pace as I go. So who would like to try this with me ? I am going to use the hashtag #365blogging  so I can see how I am getting on and if anyone would like to join me we can share our posts with lots more.

I hope some of you will join me in my challenges and see how far we can go . So here is to a year of posts , photos and lots of chats with good friends .

My Stats For 2013.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 24,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Thank you everyone who has read my blog this year and joined us in our life on the farm. I hope you all have a wonderful 2014 and continue to enjoy my blog 🙂

Happy New Year .

Happy Blogiversary To Me.

blog 2   Happy Blogiversary to me :). Two years, god I can not believe it’s been that long it seems to have gone by in a flash. This year my blog has been neglected some what due to not having the time to blog and I feel bad. I feel even worse when I look back over all the amazing things that happened last year and see that not nearly as much has happened this year.

I was looking back over what I hoped to do more of , what I would like to try and the thanks for all the awards and events I got to go to. On my to do list I put I would like to do more on tv because I LOVED my few minutes on Ear To The Ground and my next big thing was to do more writing and not just on the blog but none of that has happened this year . I will have to put them back on the top of my list for this next year and see can I get them done .

I still love blogging every bit as much as I did when I started it is still the best pastime I have ever had and it is also the only one I have ever kept up for so long. Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to read my little blog , I promise to step it up a gear this year, year number three :).

Thinking Of A Change .

It’s nearly two years now since I wrote my first blog post and it has been a great journey. It’s also two years now since I sent my first tweet and I have met so many great people and had some amazing opportunities from it but I think I need a change.
When I started my blog I was a New farmerette so what better name for my blog and twitter account. In the last two months my amount of farming I have been doing is very limited due to having so much other stuff to do. I only get to the farm now for days when work has to be done with the sheep or something done with cattle , the day to day checking the farmer does.
My weeks now seem to be full of horses, teaching, school work in the evenings, family jobs and house work. I only get time to check stock maybe two evenings a week and to be honest I really miss it. That’s why I think my blog and maybe twitter name should change ? . My tweets are not very farming related at the minute nor are most of my blog posts and I don’t want people to come looking for farming posts or tweets and there being only a limited amount there .
So this is where I need your help, I need some ideas for a new blog name and possibly the same one for twitter ?? Or do you think I should leave well enough alone ?
