About Me.

horses 037

My name is Elaine and I am a newfarmerette so to speak that is I now have my own Farm , Herd number and Farm animals but I am a Farmers daughter and lived and worked on the Farm till I was 17yrs old, things were so much easier then and its from there my story begins …….
At 17 I met a boy he led me away from home and to a new world a world of two lovely boys , Horses , Montessori teaching , Working in the Dept of Agriculture , Running my own Equestrian business and then Jan 2010 a new little boy arrived. The same year Sid was born my Mam became very ill she has been in a wheelchair since I was born and she had to come live with us as my dad is on dialysis three days a week and they just couldn’t mind each other so I care for both of them. As they are both sick neither could Farm the Farm which is in very bad repair Dad sold all his stock and on April 1st 2011 myself and Paul started Farming the farm again. So as we speak we are trying to repair , restock and improve the Farm for the next three Farmers that are growing up fast.

I started this blog as a way to share and keep a record of our farming adventures to encourage more women to take an active role in their farm and also to have a record for us to look back on in years to come. When I started the blog in November 2011 I never thought it would open so many new and exciting doors for me from appearing on tv , having pieces in papers written about me and getting nominated for two blog awards. In its first year this little blog was nominated in the Blog Ireland Awards and was one of only three blogs nominated for the online journalist award with the Guild of Agricultural Journalists this just blew me away.  I hope you will join us on our journey all that’s good ,bad ,funny and mad about Farming family life.

  1. Just read this. Sorry to hear about your parents. My dad was on dialysis too…it’s a hard life. At the same time my mum got cancer. It was very stressful, hope you are coping OK.

  2. This is my first visit Elaine and I love your blog. Sorry to hear you have so much on your plate you must be exhausted all the time but you are truly inspiring. Congratulations on the tv piece too. All the best, Jane

  3. Gosh Elaine you certainly have a lot on your plate! I cared for my mum for almost 10 years but she had a stroke 15 months ago and is now in a wheelchair in a nearby nursing home. I still get to see her almost every day which is wonderful. I’m enjoying your blog and the Blogging from the Heart course very much!

  4. I am so glad that I stumbled across your blog today. It is cool to read about all of your hard work and the animals that depend on you for their care. Plus, the “little guy” is adorable! Looking forward to reading more!
P.S. I grew up on a “farmette” that my Dad bought – It was his Mid Life Crisis! LOL! Guess there are worse ways to spend time, eh? Plus, I totally enjoy using all of the things that I learned then NOW!
